WILD WEST A-Z TERM CARDS

PACKAGING / PRINT DESIGN

For this project, students were tasked with designing a set of 26 front-and-back term cards. From A to Z, each card would give a definition of a slang term, insult, or item from a specified era, mine being the Wild West. To emphasize the western theme, I referenced the iconic WANTED posters and the orange desert horizon in my card design. I then formulated a packaging layout using a similar graphic elements and a handmade, analog rope type.

SKETCHES

ORIGINAL COMPUTER ITERATIONS

Original renditions were too visually complex, taking emphasis away from the terms

UPDATED VERSION

I simplified the graphic elements, resized the type, and used color to emphasize the hierarchy

FINAL CARD DESIGN

I placed the design on a white wooden background and added texture to mimic a vintage painted sign

One of the conditions of the project involved experimenting with analog logotypes for the cads packaging… I found the most success in my attempts at a thin, twisted rope font

Using the same rope, I outlined the shape of the United States to give the viewer some context about the scale and vastness of the Wild West. I paired this with a playful text blurb that invites the reader to further explore the product.
