DELICATE ARCH INFOGRAPHIC
ILLUSTRATION / PRINT DESIGN
For this project, students were tasked with creating an 18 x 24 inch infographic poster based on a popular U.S. landmark. After visiting Utah one spring break and seeing its stunning terrain, I got thrilled to research and base my print design on Delicate Arch located in Utah’s Arches National Park. The final product is a bright, engaging infographic poster that features a large hand drawn illustration and concise infographics that highlight the incredibly unique features of this landmark.

REFERENCES
In the 1940’s, the Works Progress Association funded the publishing of hundreds of different “See America” posters encouraging tourists to visit the states’ incredible National Parks. These beautiful illustrative works were the inspiration for my 18 x 24 inch infographic poster.
I illustrated the arch with a three-color palette and the background with opacities of a two-color palette both eye-dropped from a various WPA posters.
After sorting through tons of photos of the rock formation, I finally came across an image of Delicate Arch that highlighted both its scale and its “window” or opening which I would use as nooks for infographics.

I went on to choose a header font, collecting inspiration from western slab-serif typefaces. Then, I typeset the title and started setting up spaces for individual infographics.

LARGE INFOGRAPHIC
I decided to do an individual study on its placement in the composition. My classmates agreed that the rightmost option was the most successful in maintaining the hierarchy while blending the graphic with the background illustration.
This graphic illustrating the formation of Delicate Arch over time was large and horizontal, making it difficult to place in the composition without it outshining the other elements.
